Sunday June 25th

Bystander Intervention Workshop

2:00- 3:30pm at St. John the Baptist Episcopal

Pastor Andrew rooted his workshop in Theatre of the Oppressed (TO), which utilizes theatre games to explore, disrupt, and reformulate power relationships. TO was developed by Augusto Boal in Brazil in the 1970's, and its primary purpose was to support the peasant class's engagement in social and political change. It is informed by Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed; TO assumes that the answers to the question, "How shall we intervene?" are already in the room and do not need to be taught, they merely need to be invited out of the participants.

Summer should be a time of fun and carefree play. But for many children in the US, summer is the hungriest time of year. It is a period when our most vulnerable children lose access to school feeding programs and donations at Food Banks are low.

Last year, Admiral Church collected about 2,300 lbs. of food, with the help of our Admiral neighborhood community. This is our second year holding our Children’s Summer Food Drive to assist West Seattle Food Bank during the summer months. We are upping our goal to 2500 lbs. this year, and we encourage you to join us! The USDA estimates that 1.25 lbs. equals a meal, so we are aiming to donate about 2000 meals to children and families in need.
